Daniel Baltzer was born August 28,1971, in Columbus, Ohio. His art is an exploration of new visual vocabulary to express human responses to the world and changes of a postmodern society. He is fascinated with layered imagery both flat and dimensional as well as the human figure as vernacular of an evolving visual vocabulary. daniel had a number of group shows and solo exhibitions in Columbus before moving to New York City in August of 2002, where he now resides and continues to work.
Artist Statement, excerpt:
Begun in May 2006, broadcast is a series of paintings that explore the use of communication technology to create and maintain social networks around the world. This technology has the potential to weave people, ideas and culture into a single dynamic fabric. To participate in this process involves taking risks, as children do when they play. Children use play earnestly as an opportunity to explore and connect, creating the framework by which they learn and make more complex decisions, while staying adaptive. Communication through play is a basic element to understanding the world and the link we have to society through the networks we have formed.
