Sneak Peek: Petsmart opens in East River Plaza

This morning Uptownflavor took a sneak peek at the newest addition to the East River Plaza.  Keeping with the trend of breaking new ground, PetSmart has opened its first store in Manhattan on the lower level of the East Harlem shopping center.

Prior to opening the new store customers had to travel to Yonkers or go off of the island to get their PetPerks. PetSmart is a virtual one-stop shop for pet lovers. Not only do they sell pet food and supplies, but they also sell fresh water fish and birds. PetSmart has partnered with Animal Care and Control in Harlem to host pet adoptions. There is also in house veterinary care, grooming services, training, doggie day camp, and boarding services. Not only do they make it convenient for pet owners, but the prices are affordable. A spa treatment for your pet can be as little as $21 for a “The touch up.”  We saw one little pooch getting all dolled up  by the trained and certified groomers who attend PetSmart’s Grooming Academy.

PetSmart has recently expanded their offering of natural foods for both dogs and cats, and have added an exclusive line of Martha Stewart Pets attire and accessories to their stock.

The Harlem location offers a PetsHotel. Pets who stay in the PetsHotel are treated like VIP guests. Pet guests can have a private suite with a TV, toys, and treats like soft serve ice cream (seriously!) There are even adjoining suites for siblings. The staff keeps track of play time, snacks, meals, and behaviors on a ‘pawgress’ report that they give you when you pick up your pet. The doggy day campers can play all day or for 3 hours while you shop for as little as $20. The spa and hotel services open at 7AM for drop offs and close at 9PM.

PetSmart plans to open a second store in downtown Manhattan later this year at 632 Broadway.

The grand opening for the Harlem store is this Saturday, August 21 at 9AM. There will be a ribbon cutting and free gifts for the first 100 customers. At 10:30 and 12:30 dogs from Animal Care and Control will walk the ‘catwalk’ in a doggy fashion show.
