Swing’s Gates

Painted gates are nothing new to Harlem. We have all seen the work of Franco the Great, yet the gate at Swing caught our eye the other day. Does anyone know the artist? We didn’t see a signature and the store was closed (hence the gate being down.)

  1. Raul Rivera and Noah. They will contact you. The idea is not original, it is adaptation of Jacob Lawrence painting,“Brownstones.”

  2. Painted Gates are now a thing of the past! the new city law calls for a protective gates must be “See Thru” for security reasons. They must be installed on new premises and older solid gates have until 2017 to be in compliance.

Now is the time to record in photos the history of the Painted Gates before they disappear as a part of Harlem History.
