The chilly December air was filled with holiday spirit as local youngsters provided the soundtrack for holiday festivities. Special guest, jolly old St. Nick (known to some as Santa Clause) made a surprise visit to the park named in his honor. Pets and people alike milled around and socialized with neighbors under the glow of holiday lights in a park that just five years ago no one would dare walk through after dark unless they were looking for trouble.

This past Sunday, Saint Nicholas Park hosted their annual tree lighting ceremony. The event started with an ornament making workshop for kids and ended with an energetic reading of “The Night Before Christmas” by actress Tamara Tunie of NBC’s ‘Law & Order, SVU’. This year’s tree was a new permanent addition to the park donated by City College.

The evening’s program was hosted by comedian William Mullin, who is also the president of The Friends of St. Nicholas Park. To learn more about The Friends of St. Nicholas Park and the work that they do visit their website.
