So it seems that Atomic Wings cleared up their tax issues and reopened briefly, (from what we heard.) When we walked past on Sunday, the struggling business was shuttered again. This time with a Marshal’s notice on the door. We wish the guys luck with getting their finances in order and reorganizing the business. Read… [Read more…]

First the good news, Tea and Things of that Kind has opened!  I’m not sure how long they have been open and they are a bit inconspicuous, but they are indeed open for business.  You can visit them at 137th and Adam Clayton Powell Blvd. Heading west one avenue over, Charles’ Country Pan Fried has scaled… [Read more…]

Spotted a newish Chinese-Japanese place on Lenox. Stood out because Harlem is very light on Japanese food. Downside is the the Chinese side of the menu is heavier than the Japanese side. Expect to see only sushi and teriyaki.  They also seem to be a few smidge more expensive than the other Chinese restaurants… [Read more…]

More fast food coming to 125th Street: Checkers

December 18, 2009 by

As most thoroughfares in America do, 125th Street has no shortage of fast food joints. Add one more to the roster: Checkers. Checkers, the national chain more associated with drive-ins in the suburbs (also known as Rally’s in some states) than busy urban streets has been steadily making its way into New York. One of… [Read more…]

Buffets in Harlem

June 13, 2009 by

Harlem seems to be trading in the old greasy spoon diner for buffets. Last week I mentioned a relatively new buffet on Lenox and 129th Street. While they don’t have as wide a selection as Manna’s they offer the basic selection of soul food favorites seasoned just right. Prices are $4.99 a pound. Check out… [Read more…]

Back in September we spotted the first vestiges of construction for what will be Harlem’s first and possibly only official Cheesesteak Factory hidden under the scaffolding on the corner of 145th Street and Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Boulevard.  Yeah, sure the guy down at the local deli can make a mean cheesesteak on request but… [Read more…]

Another Subway Franchise Coming to Harlem?

November 15, 2008 by

As I walked past the late Sugarhill Java and Tea Lounge (sigh) I noticed work order permits in the window.  Unfortunately, the new tenant might be a Subway® Restaurant.  Maybe I shouldn’t say unfortunately because we don’t have a Subway above 139th Street, unless you head over to Broadway.  My chagrin is a result of… [Read more…]

Although we were one of the first blogs on the scene of the coffee wars as the black gold increasingly became a prized commodity along 145th Street, we couldn’t have predicted that this would happen. In a move that could only be described as “checkmate!” by Dunkin Ds, they are planning to open a third location along the 145th corridor.  The first location… [Read more…]
