The Miss Black New York Pageant is the premier pageant for black women in New York. It is a scholarship pageant that promotes excellence in academics, community service, health and beauty both inside and out. The pageant contestants will compete in several areas of competition, which include: preliminary interviews, talent, fitness, and evening wear, all culminating in a question and answer segment. As you can see, we have replaced the traditional swimsuit segment with a fitness segment, which is very unique to our pageant. We believe that a fitness sect ion vastly outweighs the benefits of a swimsuit section because fitness promotes healthy living and many more women can relate.

It’s still a beauty pageant. If it really promoted academics, the winner would be decided based solely on an essay or an oral examination.
