Editor’s Note: So much trouble in the world

I know it has been a while since I have posted a note to the readers of Uptownflavor. Heck, it has been a while since I have posted anything to Uptownflavor.  Just know that we are down but not out. A few set backs and time constraints have taken hold, but we are still here just taking it one day at a time.

On this day I am keeping my mind focused on the safety of our friends around the world. Recently Haiti has been struck by a devasting earthquake, Chile and Japan have also been recently shaken up, and now my friends in Hawaii are awaiting a Tsunami to rip through their island paradise.

If you are the praying sort, please hold them up in prayer. If you don’t pray, just send positive thoughts in their direction.

What we are facing as a planet is nothing new. Singers from Marvin Gaye to Bob Marley have been singing about it for decades now. When will we take responsibility for caring for our planet?  Here is a thought: what have you done recently to preserve our planet?  Every little bit helps. From picking up trash on the street to simply recycling rather than trashing your waste products.

Granted earthquakes and hurricanes will strike regardless, but honoring what our native ancestors called Mother or Father Earth, is a step towards healing our planet. While this blog is focused on Harlem, we are part of the global community.

So what’s happening in Harlem?  There are a number of shuttered businesses. There is word of a new restaurant to be headed by celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson, and underground soulster Van Hunt will be performing at Harlem Stage.
