Just in time for the holidays, we received word of a new wine store on Lenox. Does anyone have a ph
oto or any background information? Our tipster makes a good point about finding decent wine shops in Harlem. Other than the SoHa wine stores (meaning Harlem Vintage, The Winery and the wine store on Madison) and a couple of places up on Broadway, finding a decent wine store in Harlem is a chore. There is a relatively good liquor store around 140th and Lenox, where if you ask them nicely enough they’ll let you slide through the turnstile to peruse their wine section.
Love the site. Just wanted to give you a heads up that a new wine shop just opened on Lenox at 129th. I think the name is Lenox Wines, but there isn’t a sign on the building yet, just a Grand Opening banner. It’s great to see that spot open up, because I normally have to go from my 128th and Lenox home down to 120th and FDB if I wanted a bottle for dinner or a gift. Well, if I wanted to buy a bottle without choosing through bulletproof glass. Anyway, I haven’t been inside the shop yet, but it looks nice.

There isn’t even really a good neighborhood bar in Central Harlem, let alone a wine shop.. .although I guess I’m not sure which should logically come first.

I beg to differ. Harlem Vintage fails to deliver.
A friend of mine ordered a bottle of champagne (for my birthday) to be delivered to my doorman building, a few blocks away.
When the bottle failed to arrive, HV claimed that the bottle had been delivered
and REFUSED to refund my friend’s money or to send another bottle my way.
Needless to say neither of us will EVER shop at Harlem Vintage again.
Their snotty staff (and greedy owners) have a thing or two to learn about customer service.
I hope this word gets out!

I would just recommend that this new winery on Lenox and 129th St. examine the business model and general approach that has been implemented successfully at Harlem Vintage and The Winery. It can work but the approach needs to be sound and flexibility must be inherent while always being mindful of the timeing.
