Last year I wrote about an entrepreneur I met through Mind, Body N Socials by the name of Michelle Cruz. Michelle had plans to open a cafe
in East Harlem called the East Harlem Cafe. Over the past year, Michelle has been working diligently to get the cafe open despite issues with contractors and all the other headaches that come with opening a new business.
Fast forward a year. It is an election year. Michelle joins an organization called Harlem 4 Obama despite being busy with the cafe’s construction. Somehow she finds the time and energy to get out in the streets to campaign for Obama. She decides to apply to be a delegate at the convention in Denver. She is accepted!
I am so proud of Michelle and the work that she has doing in the community both politically and on the business end of things. Michelle was interviewed by The NY Times about her experiences with the campaign and her dedication and excitement are apparent. Michelle Cruz IS Harlem. She represents the grit and the grandeur. She is the Spanish Rose that grew from concrete. I am so happy that someone who is as passionate and driven as Michelle is representing our community at the DNC. Thanks Michelle for your commitment to making sure Harlem has a voice! UPTOWNflavor ♥ Michelle! I’m D. Bell and I approve this message.
