We’ve been slacking on the “what’s ups” lately, but our recent Reader’s Choice feature sparked a few questions from other readers wondering “what’s up.”
An anonymous reader wonders,
[Does]“anyone have any happy hours spots to share?
some places don’t have happy hours uptown, which is sad when a bar is empty at 5pm and they want 6 bucks for a Heineken…or 10 bucks for a well drink…
oh, btw i was driving down 145th and could of swore i saw a Bar on Lenox just below 145th?
Bradhurst Living adds,
I just was walking around 117th and FD yesterday and there is a new restaurant/bar going in by the new Subway franchise – Svntn Below looks to be the name – anyone have any info on that joint?
Does the Harlem Vintage wine bar have a happy hour at 120th and FD? or Moca at 119th and FD?
Dinosaur BBQ has a happy hour I believe but not sure of the prices.
And what’s up with Maroon’s on 145th – I peeked through the doors the other day and there’s been no progress on the build out. i really, really hope they don’t pull out – this area is dying for a sitdown joint.
Anyone have answers to these questions? I believe that MoBay has a happy hour as does Billie’s Black. I could be wrong but it seems Melba’s might have one as well.
In response to the posting about the Toni’s Touch Day Spa, a reader asked,
any other recommendations like this closer to the mt morris park area? that accepts walk ins for manicures?
Not sure if they accept walk in but have you tried Turning Heads? Anyone else with recommendations for a good manicure in the neighborhood?

Manicures-I agree that most the nail shops are very shabby and unsanitary on 125th Street. I would suggest :
125 Nail & Skin Care
62 East 125th Street
New York , NY 10035
They will accomodate walk -ins however Turning Heads will not accept walk-in’s at all. At the pricey Turning Heads day spa. You must secure all appoinments with a Major credit card for any service you require. They have a strict No Children policy so if you have kids find a sitter prior to setting an appointment there.
If you’d really like a great manicure and don’t mind traveling to the Bronx. ELITE Nails on Fordham Road, Bronx, NY. They aren’t ultra chic or anything but it’s one flight upstairs and they can truly do some nails and feet everyone, reasonably priced too. They are just two doors past Banco Popular bank on Fordham Rd.
