Harlem,
Thanks for the support. Actually we do take editorial liberties with the news, as most blogs do. I’m glad you brought that point up because when I went to the page where we outline our policy I noticed that it was a broken link. I’m on my way over to fix it now. You can find it in the Frequently Asked Questions section (FAQ) under guidelines. Again, thanks for your support. and keep giving us feedback.

D – I guess I am a little confused by Uptown’s headlines – I understand your logic about how editorially you can conclude that his center may not get off the ground, but the point of your blog is not directing users to a summation written by you or Uptown Flavor staff. Instead, they are links directly to an article.
I think that a more accurate headline describing the article would be fairer to the user, unless you write an opinion preceding the article.
Same thing with your recent “Gaudy vs. Gaudi” headline about Grant’s Tomb’s mosaic benches. That headline has nothing to do with what the article is about. You may see the mosaics as gaudy, but the article was only about restoration of a design either influenced or inspired by the Barcelona artist Gaudi.
Just my two cents – of course your blog remains fantastic and I will continue being a reader.

the “Monument To Me’ is a fine scam. I would also like to cleanse Rangel’s bowel movements and kiss his toes. After that he can do me up the butt and take my tax dollars. I’m a total dope and Harlem resident idiot!

He is being investigated for ethics violations. It’s pretty clear that obtaining the additional money needed is going to be that much harder. Let’s look at the facts stated in the article and tie them in with some other facts. Hill is trying to dig out of her won financial situation so the money won’t come from her. Let’s look at the math…
“It’s a $30 million facility. So far, $12.2 million has been raised. That includes a $1.9 million earmark, $690,500 in grants from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, $100,000 from the New York City Council, $7.1 million from foundations and $2.3 million from individuals. The largest single gift ($5 million) came from the C.V. Starr Foundation, which is chaired by Maurice R. “Hank” Greenberg, a former head of insurance and financial services giant AIG.” Odds don’t appear to be in his favor. In additional, “Mr. Rangel’s actions raise a couple of red flags. First, House rules forbid solicitations on official letterhead, even for nonprofits. At a minimum, he should stop this practice. Next, Mr. Rangel says that congressional business never comes up at his meetings. We’ll take him at his word. But those with business before Mr. Rangel’s committee could try to curry favor with him by donating to the Rangel Center. The appearance problem here is huge. ”
That last statement is not an exaggeration when we put it all together, in my opinion.

Comparing any of the senseless killings that go on in Harlem with blue code of silence and Hasidic is ridiculous. The stop snitching campaign is stupid. Call 911 and 311 at everyturn. Turn all criminals in. Period.

Why do you say that Rangel’s center is bye bye. Nothing in the Washington Post Article mentions that the center will be jeopardized – only that the fundraising the Congressman is engaged in should change or else face an ethics probe.
This is an important center for CCNY and for the community. “Bye Bye” is not a way you should describe this article, especially for a blog that is trying to help promote the promise of Harlem.

ya think cops will ever let their code go?

Considering the number of teens being killed in the community, I think this is an “unwritten code” we can afford to live without.

Where is the campaign for the Hasidim to relax their code of not “Snitching” on another in their community who commits a crime? Why do they always want African Americans to break their unwritten codes.
