On July 18 in Morningside Park (110th Street and Morningside Avenue), a Cape Verdean girl moves to Paris and defies an ancestral curse by learning to sing in Flora Gomes’ “Nha Fala”; a barbecue follows this screening.
Finally, on July 25 (Herb Garden, 111th Street between Seventh and Lenox avenues), Jean-Pierre Thom’s “On n’est pas des marques de vélo” (We Aren’t Cheap Brands) follows Bouda, a popular French hip-hop dancer, and his peers as they come of age in the ’80s and ’90s. A toast to hip-hop follows.
