Target Takes Aim – Bullseye!

Not to be outdone by Marshall’s, Target finally hits the bullseye in Manhattan. We first noted that Target aimed it’s sights on Harlem last year but now that the East River Plaza is moving forward, talk is really starting to heat up about the new crimson coated neighbors. No more trekking up to the Bronx or down to Brooklyn for your discount deals. No sirree, Bob. Considering the success of the aforementioned locations, Target should do well in the Manhattan location, especially since there is a lack of large grocery stores in that area.

Target also has an advantage in urban markets that other chains, such as Ikea and Home Depot, don’t have: a vast array of merchandise, from DVDs to groceries to Isaac Mizrahi clothing. “Target stores will do very well because of the breadth of merchandise they can provide,” the president of retail consumer consulting firm Customer Growth Partners, Craig Johnson, said. “Most things, you can walk out with in grocery bags.”
