From the pages of the New York Post, columnist Steve Cuozzo lets us know that Faith Hope Consolo has garnered a deal to bring Ottomanelli to “south” Harlem:
Popular Italian eatery Ottomanelli is coming to the southern fringe of Harlem.
The chain has signed a lease to open its sixth city location at handsomely rehabbed 1325 Fifth Ave. at 111th St.
The landlord was repped by Prudential Douglas Elliman’s Faith Hope Consolo and Joseph Aquino. Consolo said Ottomanelli will “bring a whole new dining dimension to Harlem.”
The Ottomanelli location is part of a Harlem retail portfolio Consolo and Aquino have been tapped to market, consisting of 75 stores in 15 buildings.

Poor choice in location. Why? Insufficient density for this caliber of dining within walking blocks. A place needs to rise to the caliber of being a routine supper club for x amount of people, generally related to the floor space of the restaurant, number of heads / seats to serve per night.
The location is hugely disadvantaged to piatto d’oro new expanded location and the flow of residents will not be interested in walking the additional 7 blocks.
7 blocks is an eternity in NYC. A restaurant in Manhattan is measured in context of the disposal income demographics within 5 blocks. This location does not cut it. The several dozen apartments of CPN mean nothing.
There are numerous locations near Soha 118 where they could of and should of located – they will go out of business within 18 months of opening. The name of the game is daily continual foot traffic.
They lose on this parameter of measure & furthermore are truncated by P D’oro. This is what happens when you don’t have locals in the decision making process, who know the lay of the land.

The food & the service at Emily’s was fine when I went there. I ate dinner there regularly and breakfast every Sunday morning. And during the 90′s there had a good crowd. Mismanagement. I know the former owners. The new properties on the park should help, I forgot about those.

I think this will be great regardless of the other italian resturant. I’m sick of all the fast food over here anyway and with the bus stop right there it will get noticed very fast. You also have the NYC Marathon on 5th ave every year and there will be a lot of hungry people who will need none other than pasta! You just had Museum Mile and there will be a parade coming soon on Lenox. This will also give some of the locals an opportunity to get jobs. The only reason nothing lasted over there was because the food and service sucked. Please keep me informed of the grand opening day I want to be the first customer!

They are targeting the people that will be moving into the Central Park North building on 110th Street, right on the park. Also, as someone mentioned, there is a new African Art Museum opening on museum row in the next few years. They can also get the Museum row visitors (Museum of the City of New York and El Barrio) since there isn’t much around there now. I’ve often gone to events at some of the museums above the Gugg and not had a nice place to eat afterwards.

Not sure why they would open-up shop at that specific location….I really think they are setting themselves up for a loss. There are definitely more attractive parts of Harlem that would support business.

And good luck at that location too. That would be the 3rd or 4th restaurant there since the building went up. Ironically it may need the African Museum being built down the street to bring in some foot traffic.
