The HomeBase Project is a unique annual public art project devoted to the exploration of Home. Each year a group of 12-15 artists from different mediums and cultural backgrounds inhabits a raw urban space. Each
artist occupies a room for a month and creates a site-specific installation relating to the notion of Home. The project is then open to the public for a month, and invites the wide public to engage with it through dialog, art talks, lectures, performances and an interactive website.
HomeBase is a cultural laboratory. It is a live platform for dialog and cross cultural exchange, and aims to promote further tolerance in society by exposing each other’s notions of home.
The HomeBase Project attracts a wide variety of visitors – art collectors and curators, real estate and business executives, and the surrounding community.
This year, tens of organizations are helping to promote the event, each partner organization representing the different aspects of the project – art, architecture, design, real estate, city heritage and more.
HomeBase III will take place this spring in Sugar Hill, Harlem, NY, in a historic landmark townhouse. The entire 5 floor building (including 3 apartment floors, 2 large commercial spaces and a large back yard) will be allocated for the project for 2 months.
