i just left covo, this is the second time my friends and i have eaten here, and each time, they have a MASSIVE problem separating the checks properly. tonight they charged our cards THREE TIMES!!! before they got it right. homeboy don’t really speak english all that well. the food is really amazing, i cleaned my plate, but take my advice just pay cash.
We had 7 pm reservations, but had to wait until 7:25 to be seated. We went upstairs to the lounge to wait and have a beer. The lounge is fantastic, but we should have been comped for the beer. A twenty five minute wait for a reservation seems extreme
But please don’t get me wrong. The place is great. I agree that the wait staff does seem to still be getting their sea legs, but the price is right, and the food is very good. Be prepared for a rather loud environment.
It is fantastic to see the place where it is, and we welcome it to the neighborhood. We’ve waited years for this to happen. I agree that Covo should work towards getting the lights on the stairs across the street and the small strip of Riverside Park lit, in order to make the place more inviting.
I’ve been in the business for 20 years. I can’t stay out of this place. The food and price point is what we all look for. They will need more space by summer time and believe me this place is big.
I’ve been twice. The food is very reasonably priced (especially in comparison to its neighbor, Hudson River Cafe) and was quite good. They are still working out the kinks (pizza was a bit doughy, wait staff seems generally confused), but I have high hopes. The lounge upstairs is huge and has a cool collection of old furniture. My only real complaint is getting there. I live on Bway and 136th, so the easiest route is straight across through Riverside Park. Unfortunately, the steps down the park are a hot spot for kids smoking pot or worse. I wouldn’t go this route past like 8pm, especially because the lights along the path are busted. These guys need to work with the other two places in this building (Alma and Body) to make themselves accesible. I don’t see these places generating the highway traffic of Dinosaur since they don’t really carry a brand name.
I’ve been there a few times and the food and space are really amazing. They do need to work on a few details including the lighting and music (bad smooth jazz muzak). The lighting was way too bright for dinner and made me feel like I was in a cafeteria instead of in a nice restaurant having dinner. I really do hope that they succeed.
