HARLEM BUSINESS ALLIANCE HOSTS ITS 27TH ANNIVERSARY

“RECOGNIZING EXCELLENCE AWARDS GALA,” ON DECEMBER 11

The Harlem Business Alliance (HBA) will host its 27th Anniversary Recognizing Excellence Awards Dinner Gala, on Tuesday, December 11, at The Rotunda, Low Memorial Library, at Columbia University, NY, from 6 –10 p.m. The HBA 2007 honorees are Dr. Calvin O. Butts, III, Abyssinian Baptist Church, recipient of the Chairman’s Award; Dominic Carter, NY1 TV News, recipient of the Percy Sutton Award; Michael Jones-Bey, recipient of the Government Service Award; Empire State Development Corp; Lionel McIntyre, Urban Technical Assistance Project (UTAP), recipient of the Government Service Award; Clinton Squires, Cohen’s Fashion Optical, Entrepreneur of the Year Award; and Yohannes Syoum, DDS, Mt. Morris Park Dental, recipient of the Business Person of the Year Award. The HBA Gala begins with a 6 p.m. VIP champagne reception and is followed by dinner, entertainment and the awards ceremony. Entertainment will by provided by the Jazz All Stars Sextet. The Off-Broadway cast of “Three Mo’ Tenors” will make a special guest appearance.

Maurice Grey, president of the Edward Sisters’s Realty Association, is the HBA Gala Honorary Chairperson. Event Sponsors include Columbia University, Bank Of America Private Wealth Management, the NYC School Construction Authority, H&R Block, Verizon, Con Edison, Citibank, North Fork Bank and Carver Federal Savings Bank. Dinner subscriptions are available in three categories, Visionary Benefactor, and Supporter. Individual tickets are $200, a portion of which is tax deductible. Ad space, is still available for inclusion in the event journal.

Founded in 1980 by prominent, pro-active business titans, the HBA is now a 501©(3) corporation, which has always worked diligently to establish Harlem as an economically, self-sustaining community, to impact the quality of neighborhood life, to become the collective voice of its membership, to encourage private/public sector partnerships; and to influence local, state and federal policies affecting the community. Since its inception, it has successfully launched the programs and services such as the Small Business Retention and Preservation; Shop Harlem; the Annual Harlem Business Economic Summit; and the HBA Merchant Loan Fund. The HBA is funded by its membership, grants, and a variety of fundraising initiatives. It has a wide appeal, across the business terrain, from small to medium size enterprises to branches of Fortune 500 companies.
