Below is a letter from Community Board 9:
Good morning,
West Harlem has been battling with Columbia with its expansion and now we are working with the rest of Harlem to properly re-zone Harlem. Please encourage your readers to send emails and letters to City Planning.
Emails should be sent to: emarsha@planning.nyc.gov and letters directly to the Commissioner. West Harlem wants economic independence and that would require including our New Amsterdam/Mixed Use District and the expansion of the 125th Street BID west to help property owners and small business owners.
City Planning wants to omit our Special District which would stifle and depress our local economy.
Please help us and we are asking that emails be copied to the community board and myself for proof.

The Honorable Amanda Burden
Commissioner, NYC Department of Planning
22 Reade Street
New York, N.Y. 10007
Dear Commissioner Burden,
I, ___________, support the inclusion of the New Amsterdam Mixed Use Sub-district in the 125th Street River to River re-zoning plan. Such an inclusion would help facilitate the creation of a much desired cultural arts district. As outlined in CB9′s 197a plan, a cultural arts district would generate viable creative jobs in design, production and related services. Tourism will continue to play a major role in NYC overall but Harlem specifically. Improving cultural offerings will benefit the entire district in West Harlem. Our organization is asking that City Planning include our request for this new re-zoning.
Sincerely,
cc: Jordi Reyes-Montblanc
