The Intermediate School 143 Performance Ensemble and Clave Azul will be at the Harlem Meer Performance Festival this weekend, playing Afro-Caribbean and salsa music Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
I.S. 143′s band will feature current I.S. 143 students and graduated former studnets. They are led by Sergio Larios, who tries to instill in his students the sense that music is an opportunity to build oneself toward better opportunities. He emphasizes education and music, and has seen his students become doctors, professional musicians, and more. “They’re all over the map,” he says.
