Unfortunately, Dallas BBQ will be a hit! It appears that this is all Harlem is ready for. The community never supported Pier 2110 to the extent needed to run a place of the magnitude. Beyond take-out, Harlem is a difficult monster to conquer. After speaking with Ms. Park on several occasions, I can tell you that this woman is sincerely grateful to our community.

Agreed, Harlem Girl (somebody, please mark this moment down in the history books). Dallas BBQ is okay, but a more upscale place that does not serve soul food (to be different) is what is really needed. Something like Hudson River Cafe – that’s what we need down here. But the food and service both have to be good for it to do well (which I guess Pier 2110 took for granted).

I guess a Dallas BBQ is cool.
Although, it would have been nice to have a similiar upscale place with a different menu.
I liked the idea of reservations. I hate waiting at restaurants.

An insider actually informed me that Pier2110 will reopen as Dallas BBQ..
which IMO would be a cash cow

That’s great news on Pier 2110 – I had been wanting to stop by there, but was told (months ago) that the food/service were not that great. Hope that both improve as I’d love to support a restaurant in the nabe that provides an alternative to the typical soul food/fried food option (that I love but can’t do all the time).

Pier 2110:
The sign on the door says that they are going to open up at the end of the summer with a new menu and under new management.

Apparently Manna’s didn’t own their property and their landlord wants them to leave.
In regards to them being “on the other side”, even though they are owned by an Asian woman, the community is still losing a long time community business.
As far as her capitalizing on Black culture, I never had a problem with Manna’s. Why? Because her business was run much better than many other local soul food restaurants.
The quality and service was consistant, the place was always clean, the food was just as good, if not better than the soul food places owned by Blacks, the owner provided jobs for many people in the community and the owner supports the community in many ways. She’s donated money to various community organizations and I think she supports a couple of scholarship funds.
In regards to the several locations in close proximity, apparently she filled a need in the community.
Even if you don’t like the soul food, Manna’s is one of the only places in the neighborhood where you can get a salad, fruit, and other non-soul food and typical salad bar fare.

The articles in the Amsterdam seem to get more and more absurd…I don’t understand the Manna connection to this who debate. Wouldn’t Manna’s actually be on the other side of the issue? Owned by an Asian woman who is capitalizing on black culture (by the way what is the deal with Pier 2110 — are they officially closed?) and opens up multiple locations in close proximity. What kind of mind games are people playing now? And yes, the AmNews is a horrible paper not even worth the 75 cents they charge for it but for some reason they are able to hold on as the “voice of Harlem”. Likely because they provide an alternative view to that of the mainstream press. But as we always say, “we’ve got to do better.”

Does anybody take AmNews at face value? I mean, really? I read each of the “news items” they have published in the last couple weeks – and, well, it is astonishing how facts are not checked, the “articles” are disjointed, and how much of a gossip rag it really is. I just hope everyone who chooses to read AmNews is aware that it is filled with false facts, half-truths and is more a propaganda medium than a news one.
