#9, you’re being extreme. No one who’s actually been in Iraq would dare make that comparison.
The fireworks that went on last night are not unlike what I experienced as a kid going to 4th of July parties on Long Island.
Kids, via older people, get their hands on fireworks and set them off. Simple. When I was growing up, most illegal fireworks could be purchased in lower Manhattan from Mafia types.
Law enforcement has cracked down in the last decade so there’s alot less stuff on the streets. But fireworks still comes in from out of state.
Last night some kids were setting off some of the more powerful fireworks across the street from me. I called the “2-6″ who sent two patrol cars who scattered the kids.
That ended it right there.
Bombs over Baghdad

Tonight was unbelievable. It sounded like Baghdad out there. If people are going to replace the firecrackers with guns then let’s legalize the fireworks. Crazy!

Sleepless…all i can say is you can’t wait until the next day, but i think you know that now.
Here is some pertinent info for you. The Capitan of the 28th precient is Capt. Dwayne Montgomery. The station number is 212.678.1611. His personal cell number which he gave out at the shootings meeting is 646.210.6256. You call him the next time your sleep is disturbed. There is NO reason for you to be up that late, unless you want to be. Plus, he needs to know that his officers are not taking community concerns seriously. (Which is something he was VERY concerned about in the community meeting.)

Last night was the only night that I really heard them…some kids probably got access to a nearby rooftop. They shot them from 12 or 1 until 3 AM but intermittently. As soon as I went back to sleep they start up again. At least it wasn’t every single night for a month like they used to do.

I did call 311 the next day. Actually last night (July 3rd) was pretty quiet, so I guess it was one really exuberant group on Monday. Tonight being the fourth, I figure it’s to be expected, and honestly I don;t care if it’s one night of the year. I was just afraid of having to deal with a whole week of it, and I was pissed that the cops never showed up on Monday night since it was clearly something that could be heard for blocks if not miles, and it went on for 3 hours.

Sleepless you need to call your police precient! First call 311 make a formal complaint and get a complaint number. THEN call your precient again. If you are insistant, then they will take care of that noise.
No one should be sleepless until 3AM.
