As I prepare to pack the site up and move it over to our permanent home on UPTOWNflavor.com, I’ll be testing a few features to see what works and doesn’t work.
Update:
Familiar
I couldn’t get used to the other themes so I am back to the old standby. This is as hard as finding that perfect prom dress. My old standby serves me well enough so I will stick with it for now.
2 Column
This two column white template is a bit too clean –not enough flavor. I’m still trying new templates on for size so when you see something that you like be sure to let me know.
4 Column
Just so you know, I won’t be keeping this 4 column template because the space for the content isn’t sufficient. I will probably go with a 3 column design, ultimately.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Recommendations? The floor is yours.

Yes, it appears that a 3 column is the way to go….now to find a design with some some of the same features as this one….that is the tricky part. Thanks again for the input. I’m going to close the comments here until I start experimenting again.

this is definitely better — though the links column you had was really great. Actually that is one of the main reasons I still go back to brownstoner now (even though I’m leaving brooklyn) is because I know their links are very accessible.
I hear you on the forum thing – it is a full-time job.
I’m sure you’ve see this one:

it functions well, but i think is a little blah in terms of the colors, etc. and it bothers me it doesn’t center on the page – many people use widescreens now so there is a lot of wasted space.
anyway, do your thing… the way it is works just fine, too.

Thanks Justin. We had a 2 template set up before. I did like the top tab links but they may not be an option if we change the design to a 3 column. By the way, if I’m not mistaken Curbed and the other sites are 3 column templates. I considered a forum but forums need moderators and can be more trouble than they are worth (see WaHi Online which just closed their forum.) Thanks for the suggestions. Your feedback helps me work out the kinks that I haven’t considered.

or really two would be better – you could integrate ads into the main content window or links window, like curbed…

yeah 3 columns is definitely better, especially for when you want to post images/flyers in the main column so there’s more space.
one content, one ads, one for navigation/links.
links in the header would be helpful. Would be good to add a ‘forum’ section like on brownstoner.com.
