Trump in Harlem rumors killed…for now

Posted on June 22, 2007 by

This is going to be an all real estate post starting out with the denial of the rumor that Trump is closing on a deal to build a new development at 110th and Central Park West. The NYtrumpbook.jpg Observer did a little digging around and has killed the rumor. Actually they were very selective with the language that they used, so basically the rumor isn’t entirely dead…just dead…”for now.”

Back in 2004 “Trump predicted Harlem as being the next great real-estate buy in New York.” So, it seems odd that he wouldn’t be a part of this windfall. In addition to his quite accurate prediction, fans of “The Apprentice” should remember that Trump is quite familiar with the landscape of Harlem (think the event at Riverbank State Park and the Sony Playstation promotion.)

Both the owner of the property at 110th and CPW and Trump’s “people” are denying that there is a deal in place. It sounds a little fishy to me and for some strange reason I suspect that this one is going to resurface in the news at some point. [NYO via reader tip]

In other news, the beleaguered Harlem Park just won’t die. They are back on the scene with the same redundant reports of a mixed use building sprouting up on the corner of Park and 125th Street. Just build it already because we are tired of hearing about it. [Globe St.]

And speaking of East Harlem development Narco News Bulletin has been following the Movement for Justice in El Barrio and their fight against gentrification.
