good play, ac. i personally did not know that. in that regard, kudos to chipotle. and anonymous, i was not claiming Jesus Taco was authentic tex-mex…it was meant as a comparison to make a point…even their food passes for more authentic compared to other cookie-cutter franchises

Hey guys, I don’t think Chipolte claims to be authentic Mex or Tex-Mex…just a fast food place that offers customers organic ingredients. They are nothing like Taco Bell (yuck!)Also, isn’t Jesus Taco owned by Asians…not knocking them but I don’t think that is authentic. Authentic is that taco truck on 145th btwn. Amsterdam and Broadway!

you’re totally right hugo, in terms of taste and cost, there are a million places better. but the people who are against chipotle because it’s owned by mcd’s are wrong. they used to own a majority interest in chipotle, but divested in 2006. it’s now it’s own company. also—if you are interested in a cruelty free diet, but not willing to go veggie, this is a great option (not to mention the already mentioned organic appeal) for those that care about such things…chipotle is a bit of a revolution in fast/affordable/edible cuisine.
i just realized i sound like a pitch person for them. im not. i just eat there a lot during the work week (i have one near my office) and i try not to give my money to companies i don’t support philosophically. so i researched them a while back and was pleasantly surprised.

Sorry, Columbia U. Community but if you are under the impression that this is real mexican food you are mistaken. Heck, you might as well eat Taco Bell. You want good mexican food in Harlem. Try “El Toro Partido”, “Picante”, even Jesus Taco (lil tex mex joint) has more authentic mex food on the cheap!

Chipotle is or was partly owned by McDonalds. If you enjoy the standardization of food around the globe – you’ll love it.
In the meantime, there’s an AMAZING REAL MEXICAN restaurant just around the corner at 107-108 on Amsterdam – La Taqueria De La Fonda. Support the small guys, get some REAL food and skip the CHAINS that bind. It’s also about 1/2 the price.
