The first of 50 new stores that will exclusively offer Nike, Jordan and Converse
is slated to open in January of 2008. The flagship store will be converted from the Foot Locker presently on 125th Street in Harlem. House of Hoops started as an store within a store promotion but has been expanded to create a new brand and experience described as a “hub for all things basketball.” The idea is to focus on the premium sector of their products where they have seen the most success. Competing brands like Adidas will not be sold in House of Hoops stores.
“The new Nike brand stores are slated to open in upscale malls and locations where stores like Foot Locker and The Finish Line typically don’t operate. Nike has wanted to avoid competing on the retail level with its major retail partners and pledged to work with them on new concepts.” House of Hoops will focus on the urban consumer.”It’s not necessarily going to flow from where there is a mall, but where it makes sense to put stores in locations based on demographics.”
Other locations to follow open after the Harlem location will be in Las Vegas, Houston, Los Angeles and Chicago.
