COME RALLY WITH US AT THE COMMUNITY BOARD 12 MEETING TO STOP THE DRUG
PROGRAM:
Tuesday, May 22nd
7:00pm
Community Board 12
711 W. 168th St. (off of Ft. Washington Ave)

Friends,

Veritas Villa is a company that runs drug treatment programs, and
they want to build a new facility for 200 clients on 159th St,
between Broadway and Amsterdam. We don't need it and we don't want it.

This neighborhood already has many more drug treatment programs than
other neighborhoods in upper manhattan, such as Inwood. Furthermore,
this block is a Play Street all summer and is home to many families
and child care facilities. The block's tenants and home-owners have
begun to organize--they don't need this program and don't want it on
their block. We're not against drug treatment programs, but this
neighborhood--and this block in particular--have been dumped on over
and over again, and we're tired of it.

On Thursday, May 3rd, about 50 neighborhood residents went to the
monthly meeting of the "Health and Environment Committee" of
Community Board 12. We packed the meeting and demanded that the
committee recommend to the full Community Board that the proposal by
Veritas Villa be DENIED. Because of our testimony and our pressure,
the Committee did vote in our favor, but it is not a binding vote--
the full Community Board 12 needs to vote on it.

This Saturday, May 19th at 12:00, we'll be meeting at Sisters Uptown
Bookstore to discuss the proposal and plan how we can help the
residents of that block stop this drug treatment program.

The following Tuesday, May 22nd at 7:00, the full Community Board 12
will vote on whether or not to approve Veritas Villa's proposed drug
treatment program on 159th St--its decision is binding. We need to
pack this meeting. We need to make sure that the Community Board
knows that voting for Veritas Villa is voting against the community
and that they will be held accountable!

We hope to see you this Saturday and the following Tuesday. Its time
to come together and say NO! Its time to stand up with our neighbors
for our community!

The details for the 19th and the 22nd are above, along with an
attached flyer you can print out and post around your building and
block. If you want to help out more, please contact us!

Sincerely,
South Washington Heights and North Harlem Residents Association

What is wrong with you people. Isn’t the idea to help others? I hope you all have loved ones who become addicts themselves so you can see that it is not a negative thing. How dissapointing it is to read about the reasons. The truth in the matter is that you are scared and don’t want to ediucate yourself on it.
