The organizers of the annual Uptown Arts Stroll are extending the deadline to participants in the June event. Additional details after the jump.
I have to send the Uptown Arts Stroll Guide to the printer in a week.
So far we have 17 venues booked with visual art and 6 open studios booked.
I know there are more folks who want to participate than that; I’d love to get you in.
Please let me know as soon as possible if you plan to participate in any of the Stroll activities this June.
There are many opportunities to exhibit in group shows. Visit http://manhattantimes.intellicontact.com/ and click “Participate in the Stroll (May 7)” for complete details.
Specifically, we need artists for:
June 2
The kickoff is going to be something really special for Washington Heights, with a video installation, exhibit with art depicting Northern Manhattan, children’s folkloric hat and mask making, and evening screening of “Mad Hot Ballroom” in Highbridge Park. All of this will happen around Amsterdam Avenue and W. 180th Street. The centerpiece of this event will be a sidewalk art fair on Amsterdam Avenue. We will rent 30 tables for artists to use for free. Let me know if you would like to use one.First Thursdays
Most of the venues listed below will have simultaneous opening receptions on Thursday, June 7, the first of what will become monthly First Thursdays. Many of our local restaurants will also host performers so First Thursdays become a magnet for foot traffic. Listed below are venues that have hosted visual art in the past. I know in particular that Stein-Perry really wants an installation at both of its offices. We have 17 venues booked. There are dozens more that have hosted exhibits in the past (see below) and many more that await being discovered by our intrepid artists.Open Studios
On Sun., June 10 we plan to showcase all the open studios at once. So far only 6 locations have signed up (see below). It would be great to have at least a dozen locations for Strollers to visit that day.The Guide
The guide will be different this year to make it easier to use. Instead of a booklet, we will print a large foldable map that includes a calendar. Unfolded, the map will also serve as the poster. This will require us to cut down on the amount of information that we include. This needs to go to the printer early next week. Please let me know as soon as possible how you plan to participate so the fifth annual Uptown Arts Stroll is the best one yet.
Thank you.
