New Heritage Theatre presents WRITE ON ROSIE
Voza Rivers, Executive Producer and Founding Member of Harlem’s New Heritage Theatre Group, in association with filmmaker, Arlene Corsano, present WRITE ON ROSIE a musical tribute celebrating the 85th birthday of Rose Marie McCoy. The tribute will include performances by artists Faye Adams, Maxine Brown, Ella “Peaches” Garrett, Freddie Scott, Carol Selick, Gyle Waddy, Baby Washington and Lonnie Youngblood, featuring the Fred McFarlane Band with vocalists Gloria McNeal and Richard Langham.
With over 850 published songs, Rose Marie McCoy is one of the most prolific, but least well known, songwriters of the 50’s and 60’s. When American Songwriter Magazine honored nine of the all-time great songwriters, Rose Marie McCoy was the only female in the group. Her extensive catalogue includes jazz, rock, country, folk, gospel, R&B and pop. Ms. McCoy’s songs have been recorded by legendary performers such as Nat “King” Cole, Ike and Tina Turner, Big Mabel, Louis Jordan, James Brown, Ruth Brown, Maxine Brown, Bette Midler, Sarah Vaughn, Aretha Franklin, Billy Eckstine, Joe Turner, Jimmy Scott, Lonnie Youngblood, Brooke Benton, , Shirley Caesar, Dizzy Gillespie’s Orchestra, Dakota Staton, Pearl Bailey, Dinah Washington, Al Hibbler, Chuck Jackson, Eartha Kitt, Lloyd Price.
