Received in the mailbox today was the following message:
I walked by Native this morning and it’s got a sign up that it’s closed for renovations. Anyone know more?
Well, this one has been called since last year. Their website has been defunct for about that length of time. There was a rumor at one point that Melba was going to take over the space but that didn’t happen. A real estate listing is on the Olshan site. It has been up since last year although the space is “off the market.” Any thoughts?

I spoke with Brian (the owner) on March 11th and he said that after March 18th he would close the restaurant for renovations. He said he will reopen in about 3 to 4 weeks. So I went in for the last brunch on March 18th and the waiter told me about some of the ideas Brian had for the space. Assuming the renovation goes beyond schedule as renovation usually does, we should see them by May. I’m glad they’re going to reopen, but I sure will miss their Sunday brunch.

My wife and I spoke with the owner about three weeks ago, and he said that they would be renovating and putting in permanent art from local artists rather than the ever changing decor. To me, this sounds like he’s planning on reopening.

No way! That really is too bad. I hope it’s just closed for renovations and not closed for good. My husband and I both really like the brunch at Native, and we’ve taken several friends there.
Any word on Harlem Grill? I’d hate it if both of these restaurants closed.

Aw, that’s too bad. I really liked that place. The food was good and the people who worked there were really nice. (If a little clueless.) I’ll miss it.
