NEW YORK — A fire at an historic Harlem church that dates back to the 1700s was under investigation Saturday morning, NewsChannel 4 reported.The flames broke out at about 1:30 a.m. at the Mother AME Zion church on West 137th Street.There was no explanation of what started the fire. But fire marshals told NewsChannel 4 they believe it may have been set deliberately
The church is the oldest African-American church in New York state and was known as the “freedom church” for the central role it played in the underground railroad.The church, dating from 1796, was initially located on John Street in lower Manhattan and moved to Harlem in 1914.

How fitting, after all, Black culture in Harlem is going up in flames (figuratively and now literally).
Perhpas if it burns down completely it can be replaced by a Popeye’s.
