$50,000 FELLOWSHIPS AVAILABLE TO OUTSTANDING NYC SECONDARY MATH TEACHERS

Math for America (MfA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving math education in our nation’s public schools. The Newton Master Teacher Program rewards strong mathematics teachers within the New York City public schools and encourages them to continue teaching in the City.

The Newton Master Teacher Program is a four year, $50,000 award available to outstanding teachers of mathematics in the New York City public secondary schools. Fellowships are available to math teachers of grades 6-12. The benefits of becoming a Newton Master Teacher include:

  • An annual stipend of $12,500 for four years
  • Participation in various activities, including professionaldevelopment seminars, mentoring, and research and evaluation projects
  • Membership in the Newton Corps, through which new and experienced teachers collaborate and share successful teaching strategies and mathematics knowledge

MfA is seeking candidates with exceptional mathematics knowledge, a proven record of excellence in teaching, and a commitment to remaining in New York City schools.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY FOR HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

 

The 2007 Rewarding Young Leaders in Our Community scholarship program will award cash grants to outstanding public high school seniors in New York City. The 6th annual Teachers Network Leadership Institute Conference!

Join us for a day of workshops and networking opportunities, focusing on curriculum, community, and collaboration in NYC public schools. Workshops will include, “Blogging and Podcasting with Students,” “Understanding No Child Left Behind,” and “Classroom Management for New Teachers,” among many others. Keynote remarks will be made by Deborah Meier, author of, “The Power of Their Ideas: Lessons for America from a Small School in Harlem”

The conference is presented by Teachers Network and Deputy Chancellor Andr�s Alonso. $15 for each pre-registered participant, $20 at the door. School teams of 3 or more participants pay only $10 per person.
