Harriette Cole Edges out the Competition

Posted on February 2, 2007 by

Harriette Cole, who is probably best known for her syndicated advice column “Sense & Sensitivity” and her array of books on etiquette, has been named the Creative Editor of Ebony Magazine.

Cole, a Hacole30.jpgrlem resident, started her career as a runway model before embarking on the field of publishing. She has been a lifestyle and fashion editor at Essence Magazine, and most recently was the Editorial Director for UPTOWN Magazine [no connection to UPTOWNflavor.com].

Cole’s focus in her new position is to try to strengthen the fashion and beauty coverage in Ebony in order to attract younger readers. She is also responsible for the overall look and design of Ebony, which last underwent a redesign in 2003.

“What we have to do is get that younger reader to pick [Ebony] up,” Cole said. “Is it relevant for the younger reader? I would say yes, but when you go to the newsstand and have 100 titles to choose from, what are your choosing? We need to redesign.” Source: Chicago Tribune
