spot_harlem.gifThe first stop of the royal couple on their visit to Harlem will be the Harlem Children’s Zone, which runs the Promise Academy charter school and a range of social service, health and educational programs.

Charles and Camilla will arrive in New York on Sunday morning by private train from Philadelphia, where they are expected to be welcomed at Independence Hall, the building where American colonists severed their ties with Britain in 1776.

Charles, the heir to the British throne, and Camilla visited New York in November 2005, paying their respects at ground zero and attending a celebrity-studded reception at the Museum of Modern Art. That visit was their first joint trip to the United States since marrying in April of that year.

Harlem also was a favorite stop for Charles’ late wife, Princess Diana, during her visits to the city in the late 1980s and early 1990s. She cuddled children with AIDS at Harlem Hospital and was a supporter of Hale House.
