A reader posted a tip/question in the thread Harlem Emerges as a Top Priority for C21:
I recently attended a meeting that was led by Lloyd Williams (President, Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce) who mentioned developments that are planned for the Northwest corner of 135th & Frederick Douglas, an upscale Italian restaurant directly across from the police station on 135th Street and the southeast corner of 135th & Lenox (the old diner next to Lenox Terrace).
Does anyone have any specific information about what’s planned for these sites?
I am wondering if the second site mentioned on Lenox is the old Pan Pan diner that burned down a few years back? Does anyone know if they plan to reopen the diner in the future?
An in the know reader responds:
The developer and landlord of Lenox Terrace and the Pan Pan location is Olnick Organization on E. 59th St. At a tenants meeting last month the executives of Olnick said they are in the process of securing the permits to tear down Pan Pan and that whole corner from the (the empty slots, the Church to Paragon).
This will take place this Spring and be the start of Olnicks multi-year redevelopment at Lenox Terrace (They own the whole block from 135th to 132nd between Lenox and 5th).
Ultimately they’re booting all the retail on Lenox out, replacing the old buildings with new retail and new housing, it’s a 7 or 8 year project. Just go to the Lenox Terrace office or Olnick for details.

I walk everyday past 135th st on my way to St Nicholas Park. Directly across the police station is a parking used by the department vehicles. And next to that is a residential building that was gut out and is being rebuilt. And on the northwest corner of 135 St is the old home of Slice of Harlem and the subsequently closed-down Swing Out pizza place. Doesn’t look like room for much though.
