Not in Harlem if you don’t qualify for WIC. The New York Daily News reports that the price of milk will be raised an addition 25 cents per gallon starting on Sunday. The state’s threshold of $2.69 a gallon doesn’t even apply in Harlem where a recent survey found that whole milk is being sold from $2.99 to $3.59 a gallon.
Right now the state’s threshold price – meaning the maximum a seller can charge for a gallon of milk – is $2.69. As of Oct. 1, that price climbs to $2.94. And retailers who can show they are paying exorbitant rent or overhead expenses – like many in the city – can charge even more.
